Field Mice

Field Mice Class

Mrs Hannaford

Foundation Stage

Welcome to Term 6 in Field Mice class!

This term our topic is 'Go Wild!'

The Field Mice will be doing lots of wonderful activities over the term to learn more about growing including plants and animals. We have already enjoyed weeding and preparing our class planter for planting. We are very keen gardeners and are busy watering and tending to our crops. We are growing baby sweet-corn!

We have also been adding to our display in the classroom by creating our own pictures of mini-beasts we think we would find in a garden. The children displayed great understanding of symmetry when designing their butterflies for the display. They also loved making the worms using finger prints and paint. We have also been learning about how a plant 'drinks' its water by putting White Carnations in coloured water. We enjoyed this experiment and it really helped the children to understand how the water travels up the flower's stem as they see the petals change colour over time.

We have also been very busy learning about all the ways that we can make 7. The children have explored this through using real objects and recorded them in number sentences.

Our Talk For Writing story is "The Enormous Turnip" this term, so keep an eye out for this at our Learning Showcase on the 19th June. Again a very busy term ahead for us. We can't wait for our trip to the Zoo. Have a look at the pictures below of Term 6 so far!

Hi everyone. This term our topic is called "Ahoy there, me hearties!". We have had a fantastic start to the term with pirate dress up day and a visit from a real pirate called Cap'n Jim! He taught us all about how to be a real pirate. We have also been playing Pirate Games in PE and love our Bikes and Balls sessions too.

We have also been lucky enough to have a visit from a famous author called Neil Griffiths. He invented Story Sacks-what an inspirational guy! He has enhanced the way I read a story to the children. If anybody missed his parent session and would like to talk about how to enhance your story time at home please come and see us.

We have also been doing lots of exciting Maths activities and we are doing really fun things to learn about properties of 2d and 3d shapes. We have also been continuing our work with numbers to 20 and beyond including adding by counting on. Our writing and reading is improving all the time and I have been particularly impressed with the children's ability to apply their skills more independently.

Due to this increasing independence, we will be introducing The Big Write in Foundation Stage this term so keep an eye out for a letter explaining this.

We also have an exciting trip coming up in Term 6. Letters will be sent home soon!

  • My PPA (Planning and Preparation) Time will be on Wednesday afternoon and will be covered as usual by Mrs Sarah Robinson. As SENCO (SEN Co-ordinator) I continue to have management time but this is now on a Tuesday instead of Thursday. This will also be covered by Mrs Robinson to ensure continuity for the children.

Thank you,

Mrs Lucy Hannaford.

This term we have been learning about Space. We have learned a special story called "The Purple Planet" through Talk 4 Writing.

We have also been enjoying our continued work in Read Write Inc. We are doing lots of work on recognising our numbers and adding by counting on. We also enjoyed RE day and made some yummy Easter cakes.

We are really enjoying Science week! Today we have loved showing our projects in the Science Fair. We answered questions about our projects and loved to share how we made it. We also had a great time visiting all the other classes to find out what they made!
