Staverton C.E. Primary School
School Lane, Staverton, Trowbridge, Wiltshire,
Welcome to Bears
Foundation Stage and Year 1
Teachers: Miss Jones and Mrs Bishop
Teaching Assistants: Miss Kilford and Mrs Clements
We are looking forward to welcoming Summer and getting outside more for some of our learning. We hope you have all been enjoying the new equipment.
In Term 5 we will be looking at plants and their growth in Science and Nature sculptures in Art, we are going to have a go at creating our own sculptures. Please check the Knowledge Organiser section of the website to give your child some useful vocabulary and a little insight into what we will be learning.
We think Bears will enjoy our Role Play area which will be linked to our class books, these include Goldilocks and The Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood and Mr Wolf's Pancakes.
Please check the Curriculum letter for a breakdown of all the subject areas. Homework will be posted on Google Classroom in due course.
We are going to be changing the scheme of phonics learning to Letters and Sounds, this will have minimal impact on the children’s reading books, but we hope it will bring a more interactive element to teaching phonics. We will put a guide for parents on the website in the section Letters and Sounds. Children will be split into groups for their phonics learning to ensure they are being taught at a pace that best suits them. Please let us know if you have any further questions on this.
We look forward to another term in Bears Class :)
We are so excited about seeing all of you back in school.
We have got a short term only four weeks until Easter but we have lots planned. Please see the Term 4 curriculum letter for a brief overview. Remember to keep an eye out for the changes to the outdoor area :)
Our two main focus for Topic are the human body and also some fun art lessons. We really hope you enjoy using the Doctor's surgery role play.
Please keep reading your books at home. Year 1's your spellings will be handed out on the 12th of March and resume testing on the 19th of March.
We want to keep google classroom open for homework, so we will upload the homework for Term 4 onto there and then we can see some photos of what you get up to and you can also share with the class.
Look forward to seeing you soon,
Bears Class Team
We hope you had a fabulous Christmas and a Happy New Year!
We were hoping to see all of your lovely, smiley faces this morning but we expect your grown ups have told you that schools are closed for a while to most children whilst we wait for this nasty bug to go away. We miss you all so much and we wish we could all be together as normal. It's OK if you're feeling a little bit funny about schools being closed, lots of us are! It's also OK to miss your friends and teachers. And it's also OK to not feel funny at all and to be very excited about school being closed instead! It's OK to feel whatever you're feeling about not being in school - lots of your friends will be feeling the same way as you!
Even though we aren't together, you are still in Bears class! We are all still a big team and we will all be helping each other over the next few weeks. Mrs Bishop and I will still be giving you work to do and checking how you are all getting on and helping your parents as well. Make sure you try to be super good for your parents like you are in school because they are going to be trying very hard to keep you learning and letting you know what we would like you to do!
Over the next week, we are going to be changing the way we do our home learning and we might even be able to send you little videos and you might be able to send them to us too! It is very exciting but we aren't ready to do that just yet.
There is some learning for this week on the Closure Work bit of the website. Don't forget to choose the right year group!
Stay safe and we are excited to hear from you all soon.
Miss Jones, Mrs Bishop, Miss Kilford and Mrs Clements x
