The 99 Club aims to raise standards in maths through encouraging pupils to improve their mental calculations when attempting quickfire multiplication and division problems. The idea is that with repeated practice, the scheme should result in increased speed and confidence when tackling mental maths problems without relying on written workings and methods. Most pupils will begin at the 11 Club and work their way up, having one opportunity during one of their maths lessons to answer all calculations at their current level unaided and within the allotted time of ten minutes, ( 11 44 club) 7 minutes (55 66 club) or 5 minutes (77 99 club). If all of the calculations are answered correctly, your child can move up to the next level!
The initial 11 Club involves eleven problems which involve doubling and halving. The 22 Club then adds eleven further questions involving multiplication, while the 33 Club begins to introduce division facts. By the end of Year 2, the children should complete the 33 club.
You can support your child by finding out which level they are working at and helping them to practise the relevant questions. We ask that during the two weeks your child has a go at the questions set.
