Art
At Staverton, we believe every child is a natural artist. Through Art, children explore ideas, techniques and materials to express themselves, respond to the world around them, and develop a lifelong appreciation for creativity in all its forms.
Our approach
Art at Staverton is about looking, making and sharing. Children learn from the work of artists, craft makers and designers, practise their skills through projects in every year group, and celebrate what they create with others.
Knowledge of artists and techniques
Pupils are equipped with knowledge of a variety of artists, craft makers and designers – knowledge they use to create their own outcomes, exploring and recording ideas through a range of media.
Annual projects
Every year, children complete projects in drawing, painting and sculpture, focusing on techniques including line, shape, colour, space and texture. Children create art galleries to share their work with the wider school community.
Art Week and visiting artists
Children take part in an Art Week each year, creating artwork based on a chosen theme or topic. Staverton also regularly welcomes inspirational artists into school to create artwork, run workshops, and hold showcases.
Art Curriculum Map
Art is taught across a two-year (A/B) rolling cycle for mixed-age classes, with a new focus in drawing, sculpture and painting each half-term.
