Two hours of PE every week
From Year 1 onwards, every child receives two hours of PE each week. We believe regular opportunities to be active are essential for developing physical skills, confidence and a lifelong enjoyment of sport and physical activity.
Transferable skills, every year
We believe that children should have the opportunity to develop and practise key physical and transferable skills throughout their primary years. All year groups revisit and build on these skills across a range of sports and activities, including invasion games, gymnastics and dance every year. This helps children develop confidence, competence and a strong foundation of skills that they can apply in different sporting contexts.
Our scheme
We use the Real PE scheme of work to support our teaching of PE. The scheme provides a clear progression of skills and helps us to develop children's physical, social, cognitive and personal skills alongside their sporting ability.
Swimming
Swimming is taught across Year 3 and Year 4, giving children the opportunity to develop their swimming skills, water confidence and understanding of water safety as part of our PE curriculum. We also offer booster swimming lessons to Year 6 children who have not met the curriculum objectives.

We make sure every child has access to a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities. Our offer varies from term to term – please ask the school office for our current list. Our sports clubs run in collaboration with PH ActiveEd, ensuring specialist teaching wherever needed.
We also believe strongly in the value of competition. Children take part in sports competitions run by our local collaborative schools, and have taken part in dance competitions involving schools from a wider area.
Each year, we train three Year 6 pupils as Young Ambassadors – developing their leadership skills and empowering them to promote PE, positive sporting values and participation across the school. Acting as role models for their peers, our Young Ambassadors help inspire and encourage every child to get involved in physical activity and embrace the opportunities on offer.
