Design & Technology
At Staverton, Design and Technology (DT) gives children the chance to think like designers and engineers – planning, making and evaluating real products that solve real problems, and developing a practical curiosity for how things are built and improved.
Our approach
Real-world context
Children learn DT within a real-world context, understanding how what they design and make connects to the wider world.
Textiles, mechanisms and structures
Every year group completes textiles, mechanisms and structures projects, building practical skills and curiosity about how things are made and how they work. Children plan, make and evaluate their own products against a design brief.
Food and nutrition
Children take part in practical food and nutrition lessons, developing cooking skills such as chopping and peeling, alongside an understanding of where food comes from and how it's made.

DT is taught across a two-year (A/B) rolling cycle for mixed-age classes, with a new focus each half-term.
