Inclusive approach
Every teacher is a teacher of SEN. At Staverton, every child is nurtured through high-quality teaching, careful observation and close partnership with parents and carers. We work together to understand each child's needs as they join us and throughout their time at school. Early identification helps us put the right support in place as soon as it is needed.
We set suitable learning challenges and respond to the individual learning needs of every child. Some children may have barriers to learning because of special educational needs or disabilities and may require additional support. We put the right support in place so that children can participate fully in school life, both socially and academically, and succeed and flourish now and into adulthood.
Our SENCo
Identifying needs
We:
- Talk with preschools and previous settings before a child joins us
- Regularly monitor each child's learning, progress and wider development
- Listen to parents and share any concerns with them
- Work together to understand what support may be needed
If you have concerns about your child, please speak to your child's class teacher first. They can discuss the next steps with you and involve our SENCo where appropriate.
How we support children
We support children with needs relating to communication and interaction, cognition and learning, social, emotional and mental health, and sensory or physical development.
Support is matched to each child's individual needs and may include:
- Adaptations to teaching, resources or the classroom environment
- Focused support in a small group or individually
- Support for communication, learning, emotional wellbeing or physical and sensory needs
- Advice and support from specialist services
We regularly review the support provided and make changes as a child's needs develop. For children on the SEN Register with a Staverton Passport, My Support Plan or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), parents are involved in setting and reviewing targets at least three times a year.

Working with parents
We recognise that parents and carers know their children best, and we value your involvement throughout the SEND process. We listen to your concerns, keep you informed and work closely with you to ensure that your child receives the right support.
Three times a year, parents and carers are invited to meet with teachers at our SEND parents' evenings to celebrate their child's progress and review their targets and provision together.

SEND Information Report
In line with the SEND Code of Practice, schools must publish information about how they support children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Our SEND Information Report provides full details about SEND provision at Staverton. It explains:
- The needs and provision we support
- How needs are identified and support is reviewed
- How children are included in learning, trips and wider school life
- How parents, staff and specialist services work together
- How we support children when joining or leaving the school
- Who to contact for further information
SEND policy

Accessibility information
Staverton is a modern, single-storey building with good access throughout, including disabled toilets, wheelchair access to all classrooms, and disabled parking on site. Our Accessibility Plan sets out how we continue to improve access to the curriculum, the physical environment, and information for disabled pupils, staff, and visitors.
