One of our key priorities at Staverton this year is a simple one: helping children take pride in getting the little things right.
Across the school, we are placing an increased emphasis on handwriting, spelling, punctuation and grammar, alongside the wonderful ideas and creativity we already see in children's writing.
We want children to develop good habits from the very beginning: forming letters correctly, learning important spellings, checking punctuation and taking the time to read back and improve their work.
Accuracy isn't about making children afraid of mistakes. Quite the opposite. Mistakes are an important part of learning. It is about teaching children to notice them, correct them and gradually become more confident and independent.
Great writing comes from great ideas combined with strong foundations. This year, we are determined to strengthen both.
