There are lots of ways families can support learning at home, but one of the simplest is also one of the most powerful: reading together.

Regular reading helps children develop vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, imagination and confidence. Those benefits reach far beyond English lessons and support learning right across the curriculum.

For younger children, this might mean sharing a picture book, practising sounds or listening as they read their school book. For older children, it might be taking turns to read, discussing an interesting chapter or simply making sure there is protected time to enjoy a book.

And children are never too old to be read to!

We know family life is busy. You don't need to recreate a classroom at the kitchen table. Just finding 10 or 15 minutes regularly to enjoy a book together can make an enormous difference.

Thank you for helping us build a school full of readers.
